Tooth-Colored Fillings

Gentle Implant, Cosmetic & Restorative Dentistry

A tooth-colored filling is a restoration that is designed to resemble the color and appearance of natural teeth. They are applied when a tooth has developed mild to moderate decay, often caused by a cavity. In addition to offering an aesthetically pleasing appearance, tooth-colored fillings are also known for being very safe and reliable. When cared for properly, a tooth-colored filling should remain intact for many years.

Tooth-colored fillings are made using a mixture of plastic resins and silica fillers. These substances offer many similarities to natural teeth, and they are excellent for strengthening a tooth that has become weakened by a cavity. This type of mixture is often referred to as a “composite”, which is why many people refer to tooth-colored fillings as “composite fillings”. Tooth-colored fillings are an excellent method for restoring a mildly decayed tooth due to their natural appearance and excellent performance.

When applying a tooth-colored filling, we start by removing any decay or existing filling material from the tooth that is set to receive treatment. Next, the tooth will be thoroughly cleaned. The filling material will then be carefully applied to the tooth, sealing the structure and preventing any unwanted matter from entering. Our experts will make sure that the filling has formed a tightly fitted bond with the tooth so that the best possible result is achieved. Once the filling has hardened, we will shape and polish the tooth so that it achieves a natural appearance.

After receiving a tooth-colored filling, it is very important to clean and maintain the tooth properly so that the restoration remains strong and intact. This includes brushing at least twice per day, flossing daily and receiving complete dental checkups twice every year. When used properly, tooth-colored fillings are known for being extremely durable and fully able to handle the everyday task of chewing hard foods.
